Your home’s entrance sets the tone for the entire house. As the primary point of entry, it creates a lasting first impression for both you and your guests. The entranceway acts as a portal into your sanctuary, offering a glimpse into the style, energy, and warmth that lies beyond the door. Therefore, designing and choosing materials for your entrance is crucial.
Before exploring the available styles and materials, it’s essential to assess your home’s current style, the size of your door (or the planned dimensions), and the materials used in the surrounding areas. Consider whether there is nearby stonework and if your door surround will be accompanied by steps or if it is flush with the pavement. Understanding your current setup, including the number and height of steps needed, is vital in selecting the best door surround for your home.
Choosing The Right Material
Sanded Kilkenny Limestone
Appearance: Smooth surface with a light blue-grey colour.
Style: Versatile and elegant, suits almost any home.
Best For: Traditional and contemporary designs, especially when contrasted with split building stone.

Flamed Kilkenny Limestone
Appearance: Rough, textured surface for an authentic, old-style look.
Style: Adds a rustic charm while providing additional grip for steps.
Best For: Homes with a historic or rustic design, and for added safety on steps.

Silver Granite
Appearance: Bright, white-like colour with a rough texture.
Style: Striking and bold, works well with darker or golden building stones.
Best For: Older homes with existing granite features, or for creating a bright, contrasting feature.

Choosing The Right Size Front Door Archway
Determining the right size for your stone door surround is essential to ensure a perfect fit and a harmonious look. Our front door archways are available in standard sizes which can be bought off the shelf, or you may be required to get a custom-made door surround depending on what you are looking for.
Standard Sizes: Standard door surround sizes are roughly 1200m in width and 1800 – 2200mm in height. All Silver Granite Archways come in stock sizes. Limestone door surrounds (both flamed and sanded) are all custom made so this can be altered but standard products will be created at this size also as this is the most popular size front door entrance for Irish homes.
Custom Sizes: All limestone archways are custom-made in our workshop, so door surrounds can be made any size requested up to 2800mm long.
To understand what size surround you will need, we would highly advise talking to a rep who will be able to advise you further. (**Material size to be mentioned**)
Choosing The Right Style Archway
The style of your stone archway significantly influences your home’s overall aesthetic and is very personal. Rounded-top and flat-top archways are available so there is something to suit all. You can also choose to get a plain surround with not detail, or a more decorative surround, with added detail and carvings to make your surround a feature piece. Over the years we have had the opportunity to create a large variety of styles. Be sure to check out the gallery below to see for yourself.
